What would really help AppImage step up to becoming the winner is if there were some kind of distro integrated 'App Store' style software browser that can connect to a shared repository for AppImages to download and install with 1 click, that developers can upload their apps to, that has some kind of curation from whoever is managing it. Look eventually two of these solutions will fall out of fashion and become abandoned, it's only a matter of time, so this is at least a somewhat good start. Recently firefox was officially released as a flatpak. But then later KDE worked on developing "portals" so their apps work well on flatpak, too. GNOME team is partly Red Hat and flatpak main dev is RH, so no surprise GNOME adopted flatpak. Now there is flathub and famous FOSS are hosted altogether famous proprietary apps. By the time it had a huge limits, for examole there was no store. Then snap and flatpak were dev almost simultaneously and community expressed enthusiasm for both, but more generally toward flatpak.
